Crossheads or Architraves are large casings that are typically placed at the top of a doorway or large entryway. The crosshead extends across the tops of the vertical side casings and is usually finished off with return cuts. Crossheads have been popular ever since the Romans used them for elaborate structures and support. When used as a crosshead at the top of a doorway, it is recommended to combine with casings that are 5/8 in. thick or less.
